Asuka is finally addressing the growing rumors surrounding her WWE future after emotional scenes at WWE Backlash left fans fearing the end of her career.

The speculation exploded after Asuka lost to Iyo Sky at WWE Backlash 2026 before hugging Sky, raising her hand, and waving goodbye to fans in Tampa. The following night on Raw, the emotional tone continued when Asuka told Sky “See you later” backstage before leaving the arena.

Things escalated even further after Dave Meltzer stated in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE sources were internally describing Asuka as “semi-retired” while she returns to Japan to handle family matters.

“Nothing else is clear as far as if she should come back or if she does, will her role be different.”

“When we contacted those in WWE, they described Asuka as semi-retiring. She is going back to Japan for now to take care of family related business.”

Now, Asuka herself has broken her silence in a new video uploaded to her YouTube channel, and while she confirmed stepping away for personal reasons, she also made it very clear that she is not done yet.

“I know there are a ton of rumors flying around out there. People asking, ‘Are we ever going to see Asuka wrestle again?’ ‘Is she going back to Japan?’ ‘Is she leaving WWE?’”

Asuka confirmed she personally spoke with WWE about her current situation, but pushed back against any idea that she can no longer perform at the highest level.

“The truth is, it was a personal matter. I reached out to WWE and we talked it through. But let’s be clear—as you all know from watching my matches, I can still go. I am still at the top of my game!”

The former WWE Women’s Champion also reflected on spending more than a decade with WWE while hinting that fans may need to appreciate her appearances more moving forward.

“I’ve been with WWE for over 10 years now. It almost became something that was just a given. But remember… nothing lasts forever. Everything is finite.”

Asuka also teased that her future appearances may become far less frequent, even while remaining under WWE contract. She then delivered one final confident statement that sounded exactly like the Asuka fans have known for years.

“But don’t forget—I am still officially with WWE. So there’s a chance I might just pop up in front of you when you least expect it! Because I’m a true pioneer, there will never be another Asuka!”

The entire situation comes after Kairi Sane was released during WWE’s post-WrestleMania 42 roster cuts, which reportedly changed creative plans surrounding the Iyo Sky and Asuka storyline. At this point, Asuka’s future still feels uncertain, but one thing is clear — she does not sound ready to completely close the door on wrestling just yet.
