Andrade has been pushing through an injury since AEW Grand Slam Mexico, but that run is over for now. After gutting it out for two more shows in Canada, he went straight to a doctor after returning home to Miami and revealed the damage on August 9.
Andrade posted a graphic photo showing medical personnel treating a bloody wound on his head. He explained that he hadn’t been feeling right since Wednesday’s Grand Slam Mexico show, but still went through with two scheduled appearances for MLP in Canada before finally getting checked out.
“Hi everyone and especially Las Señoritas! I’ve just landed back in Miami, where I live, and I went straight to the DR. I hadn’t been feeling well since the Wednesday after the Grand Slam, but as a professional, I had two shows in Canada with MLP.”
Andrade said he would keep fans updated on his condition, but he is now set to be out of action. He did not give a timetable for his return or reveal the exact diagnosis in the portion of his update that was made available.
The timing sucks for Andrade because he just scored a big win at AEW Grand Slam Mexico on August 5. He defeated Tommaso Ciampa and Komander in a three-way match to secure the No. 1 entry spot in the Casino Gauntlet at All In London.
Things got ugly immediately afterward. MJF attacked Andrade after the match, blasted him with his custom AEW World Championship belt and Dynamite Diamond Ring, then dumped him off the entrance ramp and sent him crashing into Komander on the floor. Medical personnel checked on Andrade following the attack.
It isn’t clear whether Andrade’s current injury came directly from the Grand Slam match, MJF’s post-match attack or something else that night. What is clear is that Andrade says he started feeling bad after the show, still worked twice in Canada and finally went straight for medical attention when he got back to Miami.
That leaves AEW with another injury situation to deal with just weeks before All In London, especially with Andrade already positioned for the Casino Gauntlet. For now, the focus is on his recovery and how long doctors ultimately keep him out of the ring.
