MJF is officially back in AEW, and he wasted no time making somebody pay. The former AEW World Champion returned during the August 5 episode of AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam Mexico, attacking Andrade El Ídolo moments after Andrade earned the first entry spot in the Casino Gauntlet Match at All In.
Andrade defeated Tommaso Ciampa and Komander in a three-way qualifying match before celebrating his victory in front of the Arena México crowd. He told the fans he was home, declared that he would win the Casino Gauntlet Match and said he planned to eventually capture the AEW World Championship.
That celebration did not last long. MJF’s music hit, but instead of walking directly onto the stage, he slipped behind Andrade and smashed him with his old custom AEW World Championship belt. MJF then took back his Dynamite Diamond Ring, drilled Andrade with it and continued attacking him on the entrance ramp.
MJF shoved the ring into Andrade’s head while unloading with punches before throwing him off the stage and sending him crashing into Komander on the floor. Medical officials immediately rushed over to check on Andrade as MJF grabbed a microphone and declared himself the real AEW World Champion.
MJF blamed Will Ospreay for costing him the championship against Kenny Omega at Beach Break. He claimed Omega was already beaten before Ospreay interfered and took away the All In main event that belonged to him.
“I am your champion. You don’t believe me? Fine. Let’s talk about the fact that at Beach Break, I had that Kenny Omega dead to rights. I had the match won. That is until that talent hack, Will Ospreay, got involved.”
MJF then tore into Omega, calling him a paper champion who is carrying around a toy belt while preparing to headline All In at Wembley Stadium.
“It is thanks to Will Ospreay that that paper champion, Kenny Omega, gets to waltz around with a toy belt and head into a main event at Wembley. That was mine. It was my main event. Mine.”
MJF admitted he was furious about losing his championship and his spot at All In, but made it clear that he already has another plan to force his way back into the title picture.
Next week in Las Vegas, AEW will hold another qualifying match to determine the second entrant in the Casino Gauntlet Match. MJF announced that he will enter that match and expects to win it.
“Next week, we’re in Vegas, and I’m feeling lucky. There is a gauntlet qualifying match for the Casino Gauntlet Match at All In for the number two spot. I’m going to enter that match. I’m going to win that match.”
MJF also promised to meet Andrade again at Wembley, beat him for a second time and capture the Casino Gauntlet contract just as he has done before.
“I’m going to then go to Wembley, where I am going to dog-walk that perro Andrade again. I will win the contract again and do exactly what I did the last time.”
This marked MJF’s first AEW television appearance since losing the AEW World Championship to Kenny Omega on the July 8 edition of Dynamite: Beach Break. After nearly a month away, MJF returned with a violent attack, a new path to All In and a clear warning that he still considers himself the rightful champion.
MJF may no longer have the official AEW World Championship, but he has already found another way to chase Omega, Ospreay and the All In main event. Andrade just happened to be the first person standing in his way.
