Andrade El Idolo has an AEW World Championship shot waiting whenever he wants it, but he’s not pulling the trigger just yet.
During the September 5 episode of AEW Collision, Andrade retained the AEW National Championship against Gabe Kidd before addressing what comes next with the title opportunity he earned at All In: London.
Andrade made it clear he plans to hold onto his World Title match contract for now. Instead of immediately going after AEW World Champion Will Ospreay, he wants to keep defending the National Championship and wait until the timing feels right.
That opportunity came at AEW All In: London on August 30, where Andrade won the Men’s Casino Gauntlet match at Wembley Stadium. He entered from the No. 1 position and survived the entire field before scoring the winning fall, earning himself a guaranteed AEW World Championship match.
That means Andrade can essentially keep the contract in his back pocket while building up his run as National Champion. Andrade’s decision also puts a target on whoever happens to be holding the AEW World Championship when he finally decides to cash in the opportunity. Right now that man is Will Ospreay, but Andrade clearly isn’t interested in rushing into that fight just because the contract is there.
