Will Ospreay has made a career out of treating gravity like a suggestion—and Alex Windsor has learned that trying to stop him is basically pointless. She admitted she has never successfully talked him out of one of his dangerous wrestling ideas.
While speaking with SHAK Wrestling, Windsor was asked about the wildest stunt she had ever tried to shut down. Her answer was Ospreay’s Spanish Fly with Kyle Fletcher from the top of a steel cage. Windsor said Ospreay told her about the plan before the match, and she immediately questioned why anyone would even consider taking that risk.
“I don’t think there’s anything I’ve talked him down from. I think the thing I was most hoping someone else would talk him down from was when he had the cage match with Kyle and they did the Spanish Fly off the top of it. I remember him telling me, and as soon as he told me, I remember thinking, ‘There’s no way. Who in their right mind would want to do that?’”
There was one moment when Windsor thought the stunt might get killed backstage. Ospreay told her that Christopher Daniels had questioned whether he and Fletcher could physically pull it off.
“He even told me beforehand, because I didn’t go to that show with him. I remember him telling me that I think it was Christopher Daniels who had said, ‘I don’t know if you’ll be able to physically do that.’ It’s one thing for me to tell him because, of course, I’m going to say that. I’m his partner. I’m always on the side of caution. But when you have agents at the show telling you, ‘I don’t know if that’s a good idea,’ I was thinking, ‘Okay, maybe they won’t do it.’”
Ospreay never gave Windsor a final answer. She watched the match from a friend’s house and realized the stunt was still happening the second Ospreay and Fletcher started setting it up.
“He didn’t tell me whether he was actually going to do it. I think I was at my friend’s house at the time, and we all stayed up and watched it together. I saw the setup and I was thinking, ‘They’re going to do it, aren’t they?’ It was one of those things where I didn’t want to look, but I had to look to make sure they both landed safely.”
Ospreay and Fletcher went for the Spanish Fly anyway—and somehow nailed it. Windsor wasn’t shocked that they pulled it off, but she admitted the entire experience taught her to stop wasting her breath.
“Of course, they pulled it off. It’s one of those things where you’re just like, ‘If there was anyone who was going to do it, of course.’ But in terms of talking him down from things, I’ve never been successful with it. I’ve learned not to.”
Windsor knows exactly how dangerous Ospreay’s wrestling style can be, but she also knows the man behind it. Once he gets one of these insane ideas in his head, apparently not even the person closest to him—or an AEW agent—can guarantee he’ll abandon it.
