AJ Styles is giving Road Dogg some serious credit for an idea that never made it to WWE television.

During the Phenomenal Breakthrough Podcast, Styles talked about his WWE Championship feud with Samoa Joe, including the infamous storyline where Joe brought Styles’ wife Wendy into the feud. Styles admitted he was not fully feeling parts of the angle because some of it just did not make sense to him. Styles specifically brought up Joe acting like he was going to AJ’s house and said his first reaction was pretty simple.

“I remember there was a time with Samoa Joe when we did the thing where he’s coming to my house. ‘Oh, Wendy, how you doing?’ That kind of thing. And I was like, call the cops on him. You know, it is a joke. So, I wasn’t feeling that as much as Vince was, I think. Because it didn’t make much sense.”

Then Styles explained that Road Dogg actually had a different idea that could have fixed the issue. The concept would have revealed that AJ was never really at home and had used a green screen, setting up a surprise attack on Samoa Joe.

“And there was a time where, you know, I defended Road Dogg as a writer, you know, in the past years or whatever it was. And I got a lot of flak for that, but I still stand by that. Because he had an idea. He’s like, ‘Dude, what if you were doing this at your home and Joe’s talking about going there? And the green screen falls off and you were never at home and by the time Joe really realizes it, we’re sliding the ring. Put it on him.’”

Styles said Vince McMahon did not go for it because he believed people would not understand what a green screen was. Styles clearly thought that was the wrong call, because he said Road Dogg had strong ideas that never got used.

“And Vince is interesting. Nobody knows what a green screen is. All these streamers and all these kids, they don’t know.”

“I thought that was such a great idea and it was that point I go, ‘Man, Road Dogg had some really good ideas and never got to do them because they would have been shot down.’”

AJ Styles is not saying the Samoa Joe feud was a disaster, but he clearly believes there were smarter ways to get there. In his mind, Road Dogg had something better on the table, and fans never got to see it because Vince did not think the audience would get it.

Do you think Road Dogg’s green screen idea would have made the Samoa Joe feud better? Let us know in the comments.
