AJ Styles had a lot of praise for what is happening with AAA right now, especially when it comes to Mark Callaway’s involvement.
During his The Phenomenally Retro Podcast, Styles gave The Undertaker credit while making it clear that he does not believe Callaway is trying to turn AAA into something it is not. The conversation came up while Styles and his co-host were discussing the El Grande Americano and Chad Gable storyline. The co-host brought up that a lot of credit has been going to Mark Callaway for his work with AAA, and Styles said the success feels organic.
“I think it’s organic. I think that’s it’s just I I I love Mark and I think he’s doing a fantastic job. I really do. Like he’s not trying to change Triple A. He’s just trying to bring out the stories a little bit more.”
Styles said Callaway’s approach works because he is not trying to erase AAA’s identity. Instead, he believes Undertaker is helping the company bring out more of what already makes it work.
“He’s, you know, he’s not trying to change who they are as a company, but just bring out the best in what they’re doing. I think he’s doing a fantastic job and and the guys that are helping him.”
Styles also made sure to point out that Callaway is not doing everything by himself. He said there are other people involved in shaping those stories, and they deserve credit too.
“It’s not just Mark writing these stories. No, no, no. Of course. They’re obviously that are helping with this. So, we got to give them credit, too. And I’m sure he he would as well.”
From there, Styles talked about how the best wrestling stories often happen when a company lets things breathe instead of forcing them. He said AAA and WWE have benefited from letting the situation unfold naturally.
“And and then it’s just organically happening. It’s just things that are happening within the story of wrestling that just add to what they’re doing.”
Styles added that sometimes the smartest move is to recognize when something is working and not overcomplicate it.
“I mean, all sometimes all you have to do is this like, okay, just this is great. This is great for us. You know, unfortunate circumstances that happen are a little scary, but this is at the same time…”
The Undertaker’s fingerprints may be on AAA’s current creative direction, but AJ Styles sees that as a good thing. To him, Callaway is helping boost the storytelling without stripping away what makes AAA stand out in the first place.
