AJ Styles had a hand in putting together Lola Vice’s final match on NXT, and he says the two women barely needed any help. Styles revealed that he and fellow producer Moss worked behind the scenes on the August 4 Underground match between Vice and NXT Women’s Champion Kendal Grey.
Grey successfully defended her title in the main event, ending the third match in her rivalry with Vice. After the loss, Vice addressed the crowd and said goodbye to NXT, signaling that her time with the brand had come to an end.
During The AJ Styles Show, Styles confirmed that he helped produce the match but gave most of the credit to Vice and Grey for making it work.
“There were two of us, two producers in that match, Moss and myself. There’s not much you need to do in a match like this because these girls are so good.”
Styles said fans may still notice a few of his fingerprints on the match, even though he did not believe the women needed much direction.
“If you watch it, there are some sprinkles of AJ Styles in there that you’ll go, ‘Oh yeah, that makes sense.’ But the truth is, Moss and I didn’t have to do very much because they are so good at what they do.”
Styles then praised Grey’s combat sports background and the way she throws punches inside the ring.
“Kendal’s not just a wrestler, by the way. She took all kinds of mixed martial arts. You can tell when she starts throwing punches, you’re like, ‘Wait a second.’”
Vice entered WWE after competing in Bellator MMA, and Styles said her kicks and strikes bring a level of realism that immediately stands out.
“Lola is the same. She can throw, and her kicks are just freaking awesome. When you see them, you go, ‘Hold on a second. That doesn’t look fake at all.’”
Styles finished by calling the Underground stipulation the perfect setting for both women and praised whoever made the decision to place them in that type of match.
“The way they do certain things, it’s just unbelievable. This match that they had, whoever came up with it and put them in it—perfect. It was perfect. They’re so good.”
The match served as a major showcase for Grey while also giving Vice a hard-hitting sendoff from NXT. With Styles helping produce the action and Vice saying goodbye after the bell, the main event felt like the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
