AJ Styles has seen fans furious over the way WWE treated Giulia on SmackDown. His advice? Maybe wait a little longer before grabbing the pitchforks.

While speaking on The AJ Styles Show, Styles weighed in on the backlash surrounding Giulia’s stunningly quick loss to Lash Legend and suggested fans may be defending someone who doesn’t actually need defending. Styles believes Giulia understands exactly how the wrestling business works—and one ugly loss doesn’t necessarily mean WWE has given up on her.

“I think it was probably more the internet because I think Giulia is a professional and she knows that this is a business. But I think the fans sometimes defend the wrestler when they don’t need to.”

And there have certainly been plenty of people willing to defend her. Giulia was flattened by Lash Legend in roughly two minutes on the July 31 episode of SmackDown, costing her a spot in the Women’s Interim Championship Ladder Match at SummerSlam. The reaction only got uglier once WWE uploaded the match to YouTube. At the time, the video had piled up 10.5K dislikes against just 2.8K likes, with fans flooding the comments over what they believed was disrespectful treatment of Giulia.

Styles isn’t convinced everyone should be sounding the alarm just yet. In fact, he thinks the loss everyone hated could eventually turn out to be the entire point.

“But but there there may be the story there that we’re doing based on the match that happened. Just because the match happened doesn’t mean we can’t go back to it. Um and have a story may you know maybe this is the start of a story for Giulia and uh going back and winning that match just you know I’m not so sure but like before we get pissed off about what’s going on with Julia let’s see where it goes.”

That’s the part fans won’t be able to judge until WWE shows its hand. Styles isn’t claiming to know that WWE has some huge redemption story waiting for Giulia. He openly admitted he isn’t sure what the plan is. He’s simply not ready to treat a two-minute loss as proof that the company has buried her when that same loss could become something WWE returns to later. AJ Styles just wants everyone to see what happens next before declaring the whole thing a disaster.

Do you agree with AJ Styles that fans should wait and see where WWE takes Giulia’s story, or was her loss to Lash Legend bad booking regardless of what comes next? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
