CM Punk says losing Larry was so heartbreaking that AJ Lee doesn’t want to go through it again.
Speaking with Stephanie McMahon on What’s Your Story?, Punk opened up about life after losing his beloved dog, revealing that while he could eventually see himself adopting another dog, AJ has already made up her mind.
Stephanie McMahon: “Do you think you might ever get another?”
CM Punk: “No. I probably would, but she won’t.”
Stephanie immediately understood why: “Too heartbreaking.” CM Punk said AJ Lee never wants to go through that again, saying, “Yeah. She said, ‘Never. Never again.’ And I understand.”
Punk’s comments came as he reflected on just how difficult the past several months have been since Larry passed away in November 2025. One moment in particular caught him completely off guard. After returning to his Chicago home for the first time in a while, Punk vacuumed the house and emptied the canister into a dumpster. That’s when he realized it was almost entirely filled with Larry’s fur.
“I wasn’t expecting it. I dumped it, and I saw nothing but Larry fur. It was all Larry hair. I had a moment where I wanted to reach in and save it.”
Punk also revealed he tried to spare AJ from reliving that pain. Because he arrived at their Chicago home before she did, he quietly put away Larry’s belongings so she wouldn’t unexpectedly come across them.
“I hid all the stuff because I got there before April did. I was like, ‘Nope, hiding it.’ I got everything out of the way.”
The couple also had clay paw prints made to remember Larry, whom the Second City Saint described as their baby.
Stephanie McMahon: “Because he was your baby.”
CM Punk: “Yes, he was. I miss him.”
As painful as the loss has been, Punk said there has been one small positive. He and AJ had Larry shortly after getting married, which meant traveling together was never easy. Over the last two months, they’ve finally been able to take trips they had always put off, even if Punk admits he’d trade every one of them to have Larry back.
“Honestly, I’m not saying it’s a silver lining, because I would rather have him, but we got married and got Larry maybe eight months—or 12 months—after. We haven’t been able to travel or anything, so that’s what we’ve been doing for the last two months. Traveling.”
Punk has spoken openly about Larry several times since his passing, even adding multiple tattoos in his honor. This time, though, the conversation wasn’t about memorials. It was about the hole Larry left behind—and why, for AJ Lee at least, that loss was painful enough that she doesn’t want to experience it again.
