AJ Lee did not return to WWE with some carefully mapped-out plan to become more aggressive. The second she got back into the ring, something inside her switched on—and she quickly remembered how much she enjoyed beating people up.
During an interview with Ringside Collectibles at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Lee was asked about the extra fire and aggression fans have seen from her since she returned to WWE. Lee admitted she was not completely sure what she expected when she decided to come back. Once the bell rang, however, the competitive side of her came rushing back.
“I don’t know what my intentions were, but once I got in there, the fire was there and the fight was there.”
Lee originally believed her WWE comeback would simply be a chance to have fun again. That changed when she felt the physicality and adrenaline of wrestling in front of a live crowd.
“I guess I thought it would just be fun, and that’s why I came back. Then I realized, ‘Oh, this is really fun to whoop a chick.’”
Lee’s return has already shown that she did not come back just to wave to the crowd and live off nostalgia. Her comments make it clear that the same attitude that helped define her original WWE run is still there, and she may be enjoying the fight more than ever. AJ Lee appears to have rediscovered the part of wrestling that made her dangerous in the first place. Now that the fire is back, the question is how far WWE will allow her to take it.
