MJF is now set for a major match at Double or Nothing, and it’s against Darby Allin in a singles rematch that wasn’t originally planned.

After reports confirmed MJF is still a major part of AEW’s creative plans, a new report from a Self Made session on April 28, 2026 reveals a major shift for Double or Nothing, and it keeps him tied directly to Darby Allin.

For months, there had been talk of a multi-person match involving MJF, but those plans have now been scrapped. As Self Made Pro revealed, AEW had been building toward a bigger multi-man scenario before deciding to change direction.

“So they’re setting up a multi-person thing this Double or Nothing season, and I’ve been teasing that for months. I’m being told that the actual multi-person match that this results in will not be at Double or Nothing anymore, though.”

Instead, AEW is pivoting to a singles match, with MJF now set to go one-on-one with Darby Allin in a bout tied to the title picture.

“For Double or Nothing, it’s going to be a singles match for the belt. So with that being the case, Darby is facing Max.”

The report also noted that the match won’t be straightforward, as there’s already a stipulation planned to raise the stakes as the title match will have a notable stipulation.

“What I do know is this—apparently, whatever the title match is at Double or Nothing, it’s going to have a stipulation of some kind. There’s a notable stipulation for the match, and it’s going to be a singles match.”

On top of that, MJF isn’t waiting until the pay-per-view to get back into the mix. He’s also set to compete on AEW Dynamite this week, where he’ll face Kevin Knight for the TNT Championship, keeping him active in the title scene right away.

That means even after dropping the AEW World Title, MJF is still being positioned as a central figure across multiple storylines at the same time. AEW shifted the plan, moved away from the multi-man match, and kept MJF in a top spot anyway, between a TNT Title match on Dynamite and a major singles bout at Double or Nothing, he’s not going anywhere.

Do you think AEW is making the right call keeping MJF in multiple title situations, or should they slow things down after his world title loss? Let us know your thoughts and feedback.
