AEW Dynamite’s increasingly long overruns apparently aren’t just wearing on viewers. People inside the company reportedly aren’t happy about them either, with some questioning why the show keeps running so far past its scheduled ending.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez discussed the overruns that have become increasingly common on Dynamite lately. He said he’s spoken directly with people in AEW who aren’t exactly thrilled about how long the show has been running.

“Guys, you realize I talked to people in AEW. Nobody likes this overrun. Like, the people there are like, ‘Why is this show going so long? I left and got home and the show was still going.’”

Alvarez pushed back on the idea that the criticism is simply coming from outside the company, claiming the lengthy overruns aren’t particularly popular internally either.

“This is not something where, ‘Oh, everybody there is all excited about it and we’re the bad guys.’ Like, nobody is in favor of this except the real hardcores.”

The bigger question is what AEW is actually gaining from keeping the show going. Alvarez claimed the company isn’t being paid for the additional time while viewership falls during the overrun, meaning some of Dynamite’s biggest angles are happening after part of the audience has already left.

“He’s not getting anything out of this. He’s not getting paid for the overruns. I could tell you that for a fact. He’s losing viewers. He’s shooting his big angles in front of the smallest audience. Like, what are we doing?”

Alvarez said he’s even asked people inside AEW why Tony Khan continues doing it, but apparently hasn’t found much of an explanation.

“And I ask—I ask people, I’m like, ‘Can anyone explain to me?’ Like, ‘No, no one knows. He just keeps going.’”

With Dynamite regularly pushing beyond its normal two-hour window lately, those extra minutes are apparently becoming a source of frustration on both sides of the television screen. Whether that eventually stops is anybody’s guess.
