Mark Briscoe didn’t just lose his AEW World Championship shot this week. He may have left Dynamite with a real injury that could keep him out of the ring.
Briscoe had just survived the Death’s Door steel cage match at Forbidden Door with The Conglomeration before stepping into another major fight against MJF on Dynamite. That alone would be a brutal week for anyone, but by the time Collision aired the next night, AEW was already telling fans they may not see Briscoe again for a while.
That immediately raised the question fans always ask when AEW works an injury into television this quickly: Is this storyline, or is something actually wrong? Now there’s an answer, and it’s not the one fans wanted.
Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer confirmed that Mark Briscoe is dealing with a legitimate injury, though there are still no details on what exactly happened or how long he could be out.
“Not sure what the injury is, but Mark Briscoe injury is legit. All the best to him.”
AEW also addressed the situation on Collision, where Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly, and Roderick Strong talked about the brutal week The Conglomeration had just gone through. Cassidy brought up the group’s Forbidden Door cage match win before turning to Briscoe’s title shot against MJF.
“That steel cage match was crazy. We got the job done, and Mark did get his championship title shot at Dynamite, but it didn’t really work out.”
O’Reilly then made Briscoe’s status sound even more uncertain: “Because of his injuries, we don’t know when we’re going to see Mark again.”
That puts The Conglomeration in a rough spot. They just walked out of one of AEW’s most violent matches with a win, but now Briscoe may be gone right after getting a major world title opportunity. AEW has not revealed the exact injury or a return timetable. For now, the only clear update is that Briscoe’s injury is legitimate, and his absence may not be short.
