AEW now has a plan to crown a new TBS Champion.

During the May 30 episode of AEW Collision, Tony Schiavone announced that six women will compete in qualifying matches over the next month to determine who gets a shot at the vacant championship.

The six winners will then advance to a Survival of the Fittest Match on the July 1 episode of AEW Dynamite. The winner of that match will become the new AEW TBS Champion. The Survival of the Fittest concept was made famous in Ring of Honor and is now being brought to AEW to determine the next titleholder.

The announcement comes after Willow Nightingale revealed that she suffered a shoulder injury and was forced to relinquish the TBS Championship. Nightingale also withdrew from the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, creating one of the biggest shakeups in AEW’s women’s division this year.

Rather than simply handing out a title shot, AEW is making competitors earn their place in the championship match through a series of qualifying bouts. The company has not yet revealed all six qualifying matches, but the road to a new champion officially begins now.

With the TBS Championship vacant and six spots up for grabs, AEW’s women’s division suddenly has a lot to fight for heading into July.

Who do you think should win the Survival of the Fittest Match and become the next AEW TBS Champion? Let us know in the comments and leave your feedback below.
