Chris Jericho and Tommaso Ciampa turned AEW Redemption into a horror show, and the Montreal crowd said exactly what everyone was thinking.
During their No Holds Barred Match at the Bell Centre, Ciampa pulled out a drill and immediately sent the crowd into a frenzy. Fans broke into a loud chant as the weapon entered the picture.
“This is murder!”
The chant came before the match got even uglier. Jericho and Ciampa had already traded chair shots, crashed through tables, used a fire extinguisher and turned the ring area into a wreck. Ciampa even brought out a Boston Bruins jersey and destroyed a Montreal Canadiens mascot toy to get under the crowd’s skin.
Things kept escalating from there. Ciampa stapled Jericho in the face, brought out an elbow pad covered in thumbtacks and later smashed Jericho through a mirror. Jericho answered by using his bat, stabbing Ciampa in the leg with an object and eventually getting control of the drill. Jericho then pressed the drill into Ciampa’s face, forcing him to give up and ending the match in one of the most disturbing finishes AEW has put on pay-per-view.
The Painmaker walked out with the win, but the crowd’s “This is murder” chant may end up being the moment everyone remembers. Once the drill came out, this stopped feeling like a wrestling match and started looking like something that needed a crime scene.
