The AEW Continental Challenge Cup is down to its final four, and the semifinal matches are officially locked in.
AEW confirmed during the August 22 episode of Collision that Nigel McGuinness will face Kyle O’Reilly, while AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley will go one-on-one with Claudio Castagnoli in the other semifinal. Both matches will take place on Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite in Glasgow, Scotland.
O’Reilly punched his ticket to the semifinals on Collision by defeating fellow Conglomeration member Orange Cassidy. After a competitive back-and-forth match, O’Reilly trapped Cassidy in an ankle lock and forced him to submit. That win sets up O’Reilly against McGuinness, who had already secured his place in the semifinal round.
The other side of the bracket was settled later in the show when Claudio Castagnoli battled Daniel Garcia. Garcia pushed Claudio deep into the match and even came close to putting him away, but Castagnoli eventually targeted Garcia’s injured ankle before locking him in a Sharpshooter. Garcia had nowhere to go and tapped out, sending Claudio into the next round. That means Claudio will now have to go through his Death Riders teammate Jon Moxley if he wants to reach the Continental Challenge Cup final.
The confirmed AEW Continental Challenge Cup semifinals are:
- Nigel McGuinness vs. Kyle O’Reilly
- AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley vs. Claudio Castagnoli
Both matches are set for Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite from Glasgow, Scotland, with the winners moving one step closer to taking the Continental Challenge Cup.
With McGuinness trying to keep his comeback run alive, O’Reilly coming off a submission win, and Moxley and Claudio being forced to collide, AEW has two very different semifinal matches lined up for Dynamite.
