AEW Grand Slam: Mexico finally has a date, and the mystery is over.

After speculation about when AEW would bring Grand Slam back to Mexico, the company confirmed on Tuesday that this year’s special event will take place at Arena Mexico on Wednesday, August 5.

The announcement came after FOX Sports Mexico first broke the news, with AEW later issuing an official press release confirming the details.

“All Elite Wrestling (AEW) today announced that AEW Grand Slam: Mexico will return to Arena Mexico on Wednesday, August 5.”

The show will air live in the United States on TBS and will also stream live on HBO Max. In Mexico, the event will air on Fox Sports Mexico.

“The event will air live in the United States on TBS and stream live on HBO Max and in Mexico on Fox Sports Mexico.”

Tickets will go on sale this Saturday, June 6, at 10 AM CST through AEWTix.com and Ticketmaster.com.mx.

The confirmation comes after Dave Meltzer discussed the situation on Wrestling Observer Radio and narrowed the possible date down to either August 5 or August 12 based on AEW’s schedule. Meltzer noted that August 19 was out because AEW has a Baltimore show that was moved from August 12, while August 26 was also off the table because AEW will be in Glasgow, Scotland, before All In.

“Yeah. Either going to be based on deductive reasoning, it is going to be held in the month of August, for sure. It will not be on August 19th because they have a show in Baltimore which was moved from the 12th. Interestingly enough, it will not be August 26th because they’re going to be in… God, it’s in Europe. It’s because it’s the Wednesday before All In. It’ll be in… I forgot the city that they’re in. But they’re doing Dynamite in Europe on the 26th. So that leaves the 5th and the 12th. And the fact that the 12th was Baltimore, which was moved to the 19th, maybe, you know, I don’t know if it’s the 5th or the 12th. I’ll just say that it’s one or the other on a Wednesday. And there you go.”

Bryan Alvarez then pointed out that the August 26 episode of Dynamite will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, which Meltzer confirmed.

“It’s Glasgow, Scotland. Right, right. Yep.”

Meltzer also said he expected AEW to announce the date soon, especially after Salvador Lutteroth was seen at Double or Nothing. He believed Grand Slam Mexico was likely one of the major topics being discussed.

“We don’t know the date yet. But I presume that they’ll announce it in the next couple of weeks, you know, and get everything finalized. But Salvador Luderoth was at Double or Nothing. And I presume strongly that that was a main topic of discussion.”

Now, AEW has made it official, and August 5 is locked in.

The timing is a big deal because Mexico has become one of wrestling’s hottest battlegrounds. WWE and AAA are making major moves in the market, while AEW continues its working relationship with CMLL. Bringing Grand Slam back to Arena Mexico gives AEW another major international date during a packed summer schedule.

Meltzer also noted that Mexican fans have strong interest in seeing names like Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega. He said Omega has never wrestled in Arena Mexico and expected him to be part of this year’s Grand Slam Mexico event.

“I know that in Mexico, I know that the fans really want Ospreay and they really want Omega, you know, as far as like the ones, the guys that they really want to see. Omega has never wrestled in Arena Mexico. Ospreay, of course, wrestled Grand Slam Mexico, but, you know, so I know… I expect Omega was going to be on the Grand Slam Mexico this year. So. But, you know, we’ll see. And that may be where they August, that may be where they shoot the angle actually is Grand Slam Mexico for the anniversary show.”

AEW said more details about Grand Slam: Mexico will be announced soon. For now, the company has its date, its venue, and its broadcast plan locked in.
