AEW waited until the final stretch before the September 9, 2026 episode of Rebel Heart Dynamite to add another title match to an already loaded card.

Just before the show went live from the Akins Ford Arena at the Classic Center in Athens, Georgia, AEW announced that Andrade El Ídolo will defend the AEW National Championship against LFI’s The Beast Mortos. AEW made the announcement on social media while reminding fans that Andrade recently vowed to put his championship on the line every week and challenged anyone in the locker room to step up.

“Andrade vowed to defend his title every week, challenging anyone in the locker room to face him! That challenge was accepted by LFI’s The Beast Mortos, for Dynamite TONIGHT!”

The addition gives Rebel Heart Dynamite another championship match on a show already featuring The New Level and Swerve Strickland defending the AEW World Trios Championship, along with AEW World Champion Will Ospreay facing David Finlay in a World Championship Eliminator Match.

Andrade made it clear he wanted to be a fighting champion, and AEW wasted no time testing that promise. Now The Beast Mortos gets a last-minute shot to wreck those plans and potentially walk out of Athens with the National Championship.

What do you think about AEW adding Andrade vs. The Beast Mortos at the last minute, and do you think Mortos has a real chance of taking the title? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
