Mick Foley’s surprise appearance at AEW Redemption is getting people talking—but not for the reason AEW probably hoped. Instead of celebrating the WWE Hall of Famer’s cameo, a growing number of fans are blasting the company over what they had him do on camera.
The backlash started after AEW released a backstage interview from the Bell Centre featuring Foley with Women’s World Tag Team Champions Divine Dominion following their title defense.
What began as a routine interview quickly went off the rails. After inviting Foley to pull up a chair, Kross and Bayne told the Hall of Famer to bow—and then bark. Foley went along with it, creating a segment that quickly spread across social media.
It didn’t take long for the criticism to follow. One fan compared the segment to past WWE controversies while accusing AEW fans of hypocrisy.
“But at least he doesn’t work for WWE, am I right? Is this the same as Trish or nah cos it’s a bloke. F*** AEW and the fans who support this hypocrisy.”
Another didn’t hold back, calling both the segment and Mick Foley’s appearance a complete miss.
“Foley is garbage. This segment was so stupid. Freeloader Foley shouldn’t even be there & these two should have lost the belts already. Megan should be solo.”
Others were disappointed that someone with Foley’s legacy ended up in a comedy bit, making it clear they weren’t happy with this at all.
“A legend who has given it his all for our entertainment diving off cells taking crazy bumps has been reduced to barking…. Now thats certainly a choice to have for MICK F****** FOLEY to do.”
One fan summed up their reaction in just a few words: “Foley what the f*** are you doing son. Your making a tit out of yourself.”
While plenty of fans enjoyed the bizarre backstage interaction, the criticism has quickly become just as big a part of the conversation. For many fans, seeing one of wrestling’s most respected legends barking on command wasn’t funny—it was a step too far.
