WWE’s plans for AAA may be closer to taking shape than anyone realized. For more than a year, there has been speculation that the company wanted to secure a major television deal for the lucha libre promotion. A new report now suggests those talks have picked up steam, and an announcement may not be far away.
According to Andrew Baydala, people with direct knowledge of the situation believe AAA is closing in on a North American media rights agreement. While nothing has been finalized yet, the expectation is that a deal could come together as early as the first quarter of 2027.
“Some news: I fully believe that, after speaking with those with direct knowledge of the situation, a media rights deal for AAA in North America could come as soon as Q1 of 2027. Talks have intensified recently, and a decision/landing spot could be announced in the not-so-distant future.”
That lines up with what Konnan was saying more than a year ago. After AAA’s crossover event with WWE, he revealed that the long-term goal wasn’t just to put on one successful show but to use that momentum to secure a television deal for the promotion. At the time, Konnan said WWE was heavily invested in AAA’s future and believed a TV deal would completely change the game.
“You gotta understand, bro… their endgame is to get us a TV deal and if that happens, sh*t’s on.”
He also pointed to WWE’s enthusiasm following the event, recalling a conversation with WWE President Nick Khan that left him convinced everyone involved saw the partnership as a major success.
“When I spoke… to Nick Khan… I said, ‘I think we hit a home run,’ and he said, ‘No, we hit a grand slam.’ So that’s the President. They’re happy, bro.”
If Baydala’s report proves accurate, it would represent the biggest step yet toward making Konnan’s vision a reality. After more than a year of speculation, the focus may finally be going from whether AAA gets a North American TV deal to where that deal ultimately lands.
