The violent encounter ended with Beretta emerging victorious, but the aftermath proved to be even more devastating.
On the subsequent May 1 episode of AEW Dynamite, Orange Cassidy dropped bombshell, revealing that Chuck Taylor would never wrestle again following his harrowing match against Trent Beretta. Reports surfaced confirming that Taylor had indeed sustained a legitimate injury during the bout, raising doubts about his future in the ring.
Further clarity was provided on the Fightful Select Discord, dispelling any notion of kayfabe. It was confirmed that there were no immediate plans for Taylor’s return to wrestling, underscoring the severity of his injuries. Despite being aware of the risks, Taylor chose to step into the ring for what could potentially be his final match, showcasing his dedication to the craft.
“Taylor had his first match in six months on an April edition of AEW Rampage against Trent in a Parking Lot Brawl, and we’re told he was well aware of the extent of his injuries at that point. Sources on the roster said that Chuck wanted to have the match, as it could have been his last. In addition, Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp has learned that Chuck Taylor has been training as a coach/producer for months.”
In the wake of this unfortunate development, fellow wrestler Rocky Romero reflected on Taylor’s career and the impact of his potential retirement. He lamented the missed opportunities for Taylor to further showcase his talent, particularly reminiscing about their time together in PWG. “He’s been good for so long. Some of my favorite work that he’s done was when he was in PWG. The Parking Lot Brawls the Best Friends have done have been iconic in AEW, but it’s unfortunate to not see Chuck be able to do even more, and I don’t know if we ever will. It’s a pretty crappy situation overall.”
