The recent return of The Rock to WWE sparked considerable excitement, momentarily overshadowing the anticipation surrounding Cody Rhodes’ appearance at WrestleMania 40. Despite its brevity, The Rock’s comeback captivated the audience, commanding full attention during this noteworthy return. While he is set for a match at WrestleMania 40, WWE has plans for another match after the event, but it might be a while.

Even The Rock believes it was the best time to come back as heel in WWE. Last week, Cody Rhodes accepted The Rock’s challenge for him and Seth Rollins to face The Rock and Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, confirming The Rock’s in-ring return.

According to Dave Meltzer in The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, The Rock is currently filming “The Smashing Machine,” a movie in which he portrays former MMA star Mark Kerr, based on a documentary of the same name.

Due to his filming schedule, The Rock is unable to participate in any Premium Live Event matches until at least SummerSlam. Even then, it may be challenging for him to train for the match while on set. While WWE believes this won’t be his last match, there is no set date for another match, as it depends on his movie schedule. However, given the flexibility of his WWE contract, he could potentially rearrange dates for a WWE PPV show.

”Rock is filming “The Smashing Machine,” a movie where he plays former MMA star Mark Kerr, based on a documentary of the same name. Based on the filming schedule he could not do any PPV matches until SummerSlam, and even that would be difficult because he’d have to train for the match while on set.

While the belief in the company is that this is not his last match, there is no date for another match and it depends on his movie schedule, although with the nature of his WWE contract, he also could move dates around for a WWE PPV show.”

Filming for “The Smashing Machine” begins on May 1st, ruling The Rock out for the May Saudi Arabia show and making SummerSlam a difficult possibility depending on the schedule. The earliest he could potentially have another match would be the second Saudi Arabia show, although he may also opt to wait until WrestleMania next year.

”Johnson starts filming “The Smashing Machine on 5/1. This rules him out of the May Saudi Arabia show and makes SummerSlam tough depending on the schedule. It could mean the earliest he could do another match would be the second Saudi Arabia show. And I could see him waiting for WrestleMania.”

We will have to wait and see how WWE will continue to book The Rock as we head towards WrestleMania 40 first, as his second match will not be happening for a very long time anyway.
