Nic Nemeth was released by WWE in September of the previous year and patiently awaited opportunities. In 2024, he seized the chance and joined NJPW, swiftly earning acclaim. His notable achievement came with the IWGP Global Championship win at New Beginning in Sapporo. In light of his big win, he is eager to defend his title against Will Ospreay.

Following a feud kickstarted at Wrestle Kingdom 18, Nic Nemeth’s rivalry with David Finlay culminated in an intense battle for the IWGP Global Championship at NJPW New Beginning in Sapporo on February 23rd. In a thrilling contest, both Nemeth and Finlay delivered standout performances. Ultimately, Nemeth emerged victorious, clinching the title with decisive Danger Zone move and becoming the new IWGP Global Champion.

While speaking to Jamal Niaz from Monopoly Events, Nic Nemeth expressed openness to defending his recently won IWGP Global Championship against Will Ospreay. However, Nemeth emphasized the importance of a meaningful story surrounding the match.

Nemeth acknowledged Ospreay’s incredible skills and stated that if there’s a compelling narrative, such as a need to test himself against Ospreay, he would be interested. Nevertheless, Nemeth prioritizes defending the title regularly against top opponents to properly represent his championship reign.

”(Will) Ospreay, I go, ‘Oh, he can do anything in the freaking world’ so to have a chance to be able to defend this title and having it mean more… I think the story matters more so I know Ospreay’s freaking awesome. I love that. If there is some story of like, I need to test myself and at that point, I’ve gone around the world and tested myself, I go, I haven’t been in the ring with you. Maybe this is how it goes down. That would be cool as hell. But, first things first, I wanna defend this every possible chance I get against some of the best in the world and let everybody know that not only am I the champ, I’m representing it properly every weekend.”

We have already reported that Nic Nemeth’s title defense against Hiroshi Tanahashi has been postponed. We will have to wait and see whether The Wanted Man will be squaring off against The Aerial Assassin somewhere down the line, as fans would love to see the two duke it out in the future.
