Nic Nemeth was let go from WWE in September last year and bided his time for the opportune moment to make a move. That moment came in 2024 when he kicked off the year with his NJPW debut. Nemeth finally got a chance to challenge for an NJPW title at New Beginning in Sapporo today and unsurprisingly, he ended up becoming the new IWGP Global Champion.

Nic Nemeth set up his feud with David Finlay at Wrestle Kingdom 18 last month, which ultimately confirmed he would challenge for Finlay’s IWGP Global Championship at NJPW New Beginning In Sapporo on February 23rd.

Nemeth and Finlay put on a solid bout where both competitors gave it their all to win. In the end, Nemeth hit Finlay with the Danger Zone to beat him, thus becoming the new IWGP Global Champion.

This marks the former WWE Superstar’s first title win in a long time and it goes to show Nic Nemeth is here to stay in NJPW. We will have to wait and see how he will be booked as the IWGP Global Champion in the coming months.
