Several AEW stars are currently sidelined due to injuries, including some notable names. Despite being out of action, Fenix is actively working towards recovery, with the goal of returning to the ring as soon as possible. With that said, we now have some clarification regarding Fenix requiring surgery.
At WrestleDream, Rey Fenix had a brief involvement in the AEW World Tag Team Fatal-Four Way Number One Contender Match. He was escorted to the backstage area during the match and later revealed that he was contending with “an old injury.” Despite the setback, Fenix had initially planned to defend the AEW International Championship.
Fenix has been absent from the ring for over three months, with his last match being the loss of the AEW International Championship to Orange Cassidy on an episode of Dynamite in October.
While speaking during Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer debunked the rumor suggesting that Rey Fenix was undergoing or had undergone a hip replacement. Meltzer clarified that the story of Fenix getting a double hip replacement is inaccurate.
Meltzer stated that, as one of Fenix’s friends, he can confirm that Fenix did not undergo any hip replacement procedures. The exact details surrounding Fenix’s injury remain unclear.
“So the story that Rey Fenix was getting a hip replacement or had a hip replacement is inaccurate. Yes [ a double hip replacement], that’s inaccurate. I don’t know exactly what the whole story is. But I’m one of his friends who just said that he did not get a hip replacement.”
It was previously reported that Rey Fenix is not expected to make his in-ring return anytime soon. We will have to wait and see when Fenix will be able to wrestle again, as fans certainly miss the high-flying luchador’s acrobatic skills.
