Matt Riddle recently made his in-ring return at MLW, and during the match, former WWE personality Matt Striker expressed disbelief over Riddle’s release. Striker has since apologized for his comments, acknowledging the need for clarification or sensitivity regarding the situation.

The King of Bros made his MLW comeback after his WWE release in September last year. He took on Jacob Fatu at Major League Wrestling’s Kings of Colosseum event at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on January 6, 2024, securing a victory in the end.

At one point during the match, MLW announcer and ex-WWE personality Matt Striker gave praise to Matt Riddle but then also questioned why WWE would ever release Riddle, despite the latter’s personal issues.

“How do you let this guy go? This guy is a star. A mega million dollar star. I don’t care what he does. How do you let him go? This is our coup de grâce right here.

During the match, Striker mentioned that the court of public opinion might want to see Fatu engage with Riddle physically, but he emphasized that the court of public opinion does not determine guilt. Striker further suggested that if anyone has an issue with Riddle, they should address it publicly.

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room. The court of public opinion would love to see Jacob Fatu slap the taste out of Matt Riddle’s mouth. But the court of public opinion does not convict, I’m sorry. I know it’s the world in which we live but, it’s not the case.

He can do whatever he wants, he can kick your ass. Anyone out there (has) got a problem with him, step to him out on the street, watch what happens. End of conversation.

Unsurprisingly, many people called out Matt Striker for his comments during the show. In light of the backlash, Matt Striker took to Twitter and apologized for his comments, admitting that they were tone deaf.

‘I’ve given this a lot of thought. Could not sleep.
My critics are right
.
I was wrong. Tone deaf.
Trying to use the guise of art or character portrayal is self preservation. Thank you
to those that shone light on this.
It is now on me to stand in that light.
I will be better”

We will have to wait and see whether Matt Striker will genuinely learn from his mistakes and understand that what Matt Riddle did was not right at all. Nonetheless, Riddle has other things on his plate right now as well, so it remains to be seen what he will do next.
