AEW started the company with the promise that some talent would be able to work elsewhere. Some were not exclusive, as Tony Khan only needed his talent for certain days of the week. As AEW expanded their schedule, it appears that the demands on talent may limit the places they can work consistently outside Tony Khan’s reach.

AEW intends to feature Komander regularly on Collision, which will potentially lead to him relinquishing his current AAA titles. Komander first appeared in AEW during the March 2023 Face of the Revolution ladder match and later made his ROH debut at Supercard of Honor on March 31. Tony Khan officially confirmed Komander’s AEW contract on April 19, 2023.

Komander received interest from both WWE and AEW, but ultimately chose to sign with Tony Khan’s company. His decision was influenced by reports that WWE would offer him an initial NXT-level deal.

Komander currently holds the Lucha Libre AAA World Cruiserweight Championship and is one-half of the AAA World Tag Team Champions with Arez. That being said, his championship reign may be affected by AEW’s plans, as Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Komander, who has the cruiserweight and tag titles (Arez) here may have to be dropping them.

AEW pretty much said they wanted Komander every Saturday and that leaves it being difficult to book since AAA’s TVs are often on Saturdays.

Following Komander’s AEW debut, Tony Khan had aimed to secure El Hijo de Vikingo, although Vikingo was not available for the match. Eventually, Vikingo made his AEW debut on the March 22, 2023, episode of Dynamite.

AEW’s roster has a lot of things going on, and several of them have things happening outside the company as well. This could lead to a bit of an issue when those stars are trying to work elsewhere.

We will have to see what happens next. AEW has five hours of programming to fill every single week, and it appears that those demands are causing a bit of an issue for companies who would like to use that talent, even if they are a champion elsewhere.

What’s your take on this AEW story? Should Tony Khan still allow his talent to wrestle for other companies? Let us know what you think about this in the comments section!
