The NWA reportedly inked a deal with The CW to bring their show to their network. That being said, a controversial angle with James Mitchell and a table full of cocaine may have thrown a wrench in the situation.

It was previously reported that James Mitchell’s wild cocaine segment may have caused a lot of problems with their CW deal. The company hadn’t officially announced anything with the long-running channel, but there were reportedly some problems before they even got started thanks to that cocaine angle.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer spoke about this issue, and he said that Billy Corgan has denied that there are any issues. Meltzer apparently received a response from the Smashing Pumpkins lead singer that day about the situation.

“Yeah. So, the deal with Billy, I heard from him today. And so the basic deal there is, this is about the cocaine spot with Mitchell and everything like that. And as far as, like, all the stuff. I didn’t speak to him. We just exchanged emails, but we were not. I was asking him questions that had to do with stuff I don’t care about.”

“Basically, he disputes the report about a lot of the CW stuff, but cannot get into the details of it because of all that stuff. There’s the actual deal and everything like that there. I don’t know what the time is, but they’re under an agreement. Whatever the station that he’s working with, which we presume is CW, there’s an agreement to not talk about the contract, the release, or anything like that, or if it’s another station.”

So there are basically no questions that he can answer because then, by doing so, he just disputes the Nick Hausman report. It’s like, whatever time is going to say what it is, or it isn’t, he’s going to dispute that. Of course, he’s going to. So that’s kind of where we are. There’s nothing really to report on that other than the story’s out there, and I’m sure there’s truth to a lot of the story. But where it all is and everything is to be determined.”

We will keep our eyes on this story, and everything else revolving the NWA’s future potential television deal. It would obviously be a great thing for pro wrestling if the NWA got back on weekly television. Only time will tell if this issue with the CW is actually water under the bridge.

Pro wrestling has a history of pushing the envelope, and this time that envelope was full of an illegal substance. Hopefully, they can get past any issues in this situation, so they can continue with business as usual.
