Former WWE Star Reveals Taking Pay Cut to Join NXT

EC3’s career in WWE has been largely criticized by fans as the company has underutilized him on the main roster. He eventually parted ways with WWE back in 2020 and has never looked back since. Now it appears that EC3 claimed he took a pay cut to sign with NXT.

After his departure, EC3 made his return to Impact Wrestling where he had a brief stint. After that, he made his way to other promotions, including ROH and eventually founded his Control Your Narrative promotion. However, that endeavour did not prove to be a successful one.

Before his WWE main roster run, EC3 made his way to NXT and was instantly established as a worthwhile talent. While speaking on the WrestleBinge podcast, EC3 claimed that he took a pay cut to sign with NXT.

“I took a pay cut to go to NXT… And by doing that, hopefully at the end of the tunnel would be the very high reward that I knew if I had who I am and what I was, then A) Under their guidance and tutelage and umbrella and brand, what I made could be inherited and exemplified to an extremely high level and be uberly successful. So that was my mistake, thinking that anybody there would be looking out for me.

Because the realization was that I was already over. I became nobody’s project to create. You know what I mean? A mercenary in a sense. I was paid to be there. And by not being a creation of anybody pushing for you – you’re there, you’re in the talks, but there’s nobody really thriving for you to succeed because nobody can take credit for your success.” 

EC3 also once outsmarted WWE and kept his name during his time in the company. EC3 is currently focused on his own ventures in promotions such as the NWA, where he is the World Champion. It is unlikely he will ever return to WWE and that’s perhaps the best thing for him.
