EC3’s career in WWE has been largely criticized by fans as the company has underutilized him on the main roster. He eventually parted ways with WWE back in 2020 and has never looked back since. That said, it appears that EC3 used an ingenious way to avoid WWE changing his name after joining the company.

After an underwhelming initial run in WWE from 2009-2013, EC3 signed with WWE as a top star back in 2018 after a terrific stint in Impact Wrestling. Interestingly enough, EC3 managed to keep his name despite signing with NXT.

While speaking on The Wrestling Outlaws, EC3 talked about his time in WWE. EC3 revealed that when WWE asked him about a possible name change, he explained how his name was already well-known.

While he refused, the former NXT star had no choice but to note down a few potential names. That said, EC3 used an ingenious method to keep his real name. EC3 simply noted down the worst possible names imaginable, forcing WWE to let him keep his old name.

“So I trademarked EC3, and when I went to NXT, they asked if they wanted to change the name or can we change the name. I was like, ‘I don’t really want to; it’s three characters, it’s easy to chant, [and] it has recognition.’ So they said, ‘We’ll just throw some names on the list.

I said okay. So to avoid changing the name, I put some of the worst possible names on this list. Like they all had E, and they all had C. So at the top of the list was something like Edgar Crushington. They were just like, ‘Whatever, just go ahead.”

EC3 is currently focused on his own ventures in promotions such as the NWA and he wouldn’t want it any other way. That said, it remains to be seen whether he will ever return to WWE.

What’s your take on what EC3 said? Do you think what he did was a smart move? Sound off in the comments!
