CM Punk left WWE in 2014 primarily due to a combination of creative frustrations, burnout, and health concerns. He felt that the company’s creative direction did not align with his vision for his character, leading to dissatisfaction with his role in WWE storylines. Now that he is a free agent again after a return to the ring with AEW, CM Punk may have changed his story about his desire to wrestle in WWE again. That doesn’t mean WWE necessarily needs him.

A story started making the rounds last week that CM Punk wants to make return to WWE, and those close to the Second City Savior have said that there are currently talks between the two sides. The story gained a lot of traction, but there is no certainty at all that he will return.

Ringside News exclusively reported that CM Punk is trying to float the narrative that there are serious talks about his return to WWE. He wants to return to WWE, but this situation was explained to us as CM Punk “trying to get himself in the door.”

During his 83 Weeks podcast, Eric Bischoff touched on the idea of CM Punk making his way back to WWE. Easy E then made a point that WWE doesn’t need CM Punk right now. At this point, they are doing great numbers without his presence.

“WWE doesn’t need CM Punk. They are doing very well without him.”

Eric Bischoff then indicated that CM Punk would be a good talent to help maintain momentum in the company. After all, they have a lot of great things going for them right now that has fan interest booming. That being said, WWE is going to garner a huge fan reaction at Survivor Series, even without CM Punk. So, the Second City Savior has no real added value in the situation.

“Chicago is going to pop either way. No added value. None!”

Some may say that CM Punk is a liability to WWE if they bring him back. Others, like Kevin Nash, have buried the idea of WWE bringing CM Punk back after he caused so much unrest the last time he was around. Only time will tell if the Second City Savior actually comes back to WWE.

WWE will hold Survivor Series in Chicago on November 24th. They already have a WarGames match lined up, so CM Punk may not be needed at all to sell out the venue or spike fan interest.

CM Punk’s departure from AEW was sudden, and now he may want to come back to WWE. Even if a WWE return isn’t in the cared, at least he seems to have some serious interest from Impact Wrestling.
