WWE is reportedly quite pleased with the recent trends in NXT’s viewership ratings, with the numbers on Tuesday nights gaining increased importance for the company.

Several WWE sources have indicated to Frightful that the recent appearances of stars like Judgment Day and Becky Lynch on NXT are partially driven by the desire to boost the viewership numbers on Tuesday nights.

The main motivation behind this strategic shift is financial, as WWE aims to enhance its television viewership on Tuesdays to potentially secure a more lucrative rights fee deal or package in the future. By demonstrating that minor adjustments can lead to increased ratings, WWE hopes to attract more favorable offers from networks. This development comes ahead of WWE’s announcement that SmackDown would be moving to the USA Network.

One notable highlight in NXT’s recent viewership was the Becky Lynch vs. Tiffany Stratton match for the NXT Title on September 12. WWE was reportedly ecstatic about the numbers this match generated, marking the largest viewership in almost three years and the first time they peaked at over one million viewers in even longer.

However, there is speculation that WWE’s recent signings and adjustments in NXT are driven by a perceived competition with AEW. WWE and AEW are indeed competing in the same market, leading to intense rivalry. Some have drawn comparisons to the past wars between WWE and WCW or TNA.

While there is a narrative that WWE is concerned about AEW to the point where it might lead to a situation similar to the WWE vs. WCW era, Ringside News reports that this is just an opinion and does not reflect any official viewpoint from WWE.

WWE acknowledges the competition in the marketplace but is primarily focused on booking shows that serve fans and adapt to the evolving landscape.

A member of the creative team stated, “We don’t really spend any time talking about it. Too much going on here, we have a lot of shows to book.”

WWE is monitoring the situation but remains dedicated to its own creative vision.

What are your thoughts on WWE’s approach to enhancing NXT’s viewership? Do you think it will lead to more favorable offers from networks, and how do you see this competition between WWE and AEW evolving in the coming years? Leave us your comments below.
