Edge wrestled the last match in his WWE contract in Toronto against Sheamus. That was quite a moment, and then he announced that he won’t wrestle in his home city again. The Rated R Superstar has not inked a new deal with WWE either, and that brings his future into question in a big way.
As Ringside News exclusively reported, there is an internal belief within WWE that Edge is going to AEW. There are also those in AEW who feel the same way. At this time, Edge is still riding out the rest of what contract he has left with WWE.
During WWE The Bump, Edge spoke about how great it feels to be able to end his pro wrestling career on his terms this time around. He agreed with Kayla Braxton when she suggested that it gives him a “peace of mind.”
“It does [give me a peace of mind], because, you know, I was able to come back and do it. The challenge of that. I was told by doctors that I could never do this again, and to be here three years later and to be able to wrestle some of the best, to team with my wife.”
“The Royal Rumble by itself made this a success for me, because I conquered the challenge. Everything on top of that has just been [a bonus].”
We will have to see what Edge does next in his career. He is still in great shape, and able to wrestle at a peak level. That being said, his road might take him to AEW in the meantime.
Edge could find himself in AEW, because he has friends there. He was also in talks with the company prior to WWE allowing him to come back for one more unforgettable run. Right now, it seems that Edge is very grateful about how things turned out.
Will you be sad when Edge retires again for real? Do you think he’s heading to AEW? Sound off in the comments to let us know what you’re thinking!
