Sami Zayn was set to take part in a big six-man tag team match in the main event of RAW this week. Sadly, things didn’t work out, and Shinsuke Nakamura took over for him, which opened the doors for the King of Strong Style’s heel turn. There was a legitimate reason why Sami Zayn couldn’t wrestle in that match.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Sami Zayn’s injury angle on RAW was actually due to a bursa sac injury, which was real. His elbow is actually giving him trouble, so this was an angle, but there was a legit reason behind it.

“That (attack from McDonagh) was a cover for a bursa sac injury. It’s so swollen. He had a golf ball size swell.

“I wonder what they’re gonna do with the tag team titles. Kevin can work, the whole idea was that since they decided not to book him for SummerSlam – if they booked him for SummerSlam, he would have kept working and done SummerSlam.

“But when the decision was made not to put a tag team title match on SummerSlam, they decided to shoot an angle to get him off and get him a little bit of rest.

It was also noted that, “But it was only supposed to be a short period of rest, that’s why they didn’t take the belts off (them) or anything like that.” Hopefully, he won’t be out of action for long.

Sami Zayn was still able to be at ringside for the main event match. Only time will tell what else he will be able to do. Keep checking back with Ringside News for more.
