WWE might have wanted to sign The Elite, but they were never even able to offer them contracts before AEW was able to lock them down to new deals. Those contracts are pretty massive, and negotiated by agent Barry Bloom, but WWE still had plans for Omega is he would have agreed to give them an opportunity.

We previously reported that Kenny Omega was WWE’s #1 most wanted star, but they weren’t able to ink a deal with The Cleaner. All four members of The Elite are sticking around AEW. That doesn’t mean that all of the issues are behind them.

It was noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE had plans for Kenny Omega to work the main event in the company. There were ideas for The Cleaner to work with Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, and other top guys in the compay.

“One person with knowledge of WWE’s interest has noted to us that while Omega was top talent who would have been used as a top guy, in the mix with the likes of Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins and Brock Lesnar level guys, that because of long-term physical durability that they believed Rollins as the role of the best in-ring wrestler in the company had more time in that role than Omega would have.”

Although fans will never see Kenny Omega vs Brock Lesnar, that doesn’t mean The Cleaner’s story is over. He will continue in AEW as an EVP, and at 39-years-old, Omega has enough gas in the tank to continue his current rate of performing as well.

Only time will tell what kind of run The Elite has in AEW during their second round of contracts. They have a lot of possibilities, but they will also have to keep the action within Tony Khan’s umbrella. That also doesn’t mean everything is 100% okay with CM Punk yet.
