Andrade El Idolo came with a lot of expectations for AEW and fans were excited to see what he could accomplish in the company. As it turns out, he didn’t reach the level of success fans wanted him. He already returned to AEW television, but it appears Idolo was supposed to compete at GCW Spring Break 2021 before his AEW debut.

Andrade El Idolo was released by WWE in March 2021 and debuted in AEW on the June 4, 2021 episode of AEW Dynamite as the new client of Vickie Guerrero. That said, fans wondered if he had any prior bookings before his AEW debut.

While speaking during a Reddit AMA, GCW owner Brett Lauderdale revealed that Andrade El Idolo was supposed to be at GCW Spring Break 2021 on April 9 in order to set up a future match with Lio Rush. However, his AEW signing stopped that from happening.

“We actually had Andrade (one of my favorite wrestlers) booked for Spring Break Tampa. He was gonna make a surprise appearance to setup a match with Lio Rush in Atlantic City. But, between the time he was booked and the day of the show, he signed with AEW and pulled off so that AEW could be his first show back.”

AEW talent have frequently appeared during GCW events, with Jon Moxley being a prime example. Even Jeff Hardy is set to make his GCW debut in August. Regardless, we’ll have to see if Andrade will make his way to GCW somewhere down the line.
