Gunther’s incredible performance in NXT UK was simply just the beginning of his career in WWE. Following a decent run on NXT after that, Gunther was called up to the main roster and has since become a bonafide star there. Now it appears that Gunther wants to face Brock Lesnar in the UK.
The Ring General and The Beast Incarnate came face to face at the Royal Rumble and showed a glimpse of what they can do. Gunther, too, has expressed his desire to fight Lesnar in several interviews.
The Ring General had previously stated that his encounter with Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble gave him confirmation that the WWE Universe is rooting for the match to happen as well.
While speaking on My Love Letter to Wrestling with Mark Andrews, Gunther asked if Triple H might have interest in booking a match against Brock in the UK. Gunther made it clear he hopes WWE is interested in the match.
“That moment with Brock was all I needed. I don’t think we needed to have lots of action going on with him, get into a little scuffle and stuff, just the moment and the crowd reaction for that, it was all I needed. Just see how people…on the internet, you read stuff and people get easily excited, but often, the hype from online doesn’t translate to the venue. When that happened, I was like, compared to the US, especially in England, people understand competition. They tend to look at the match and take it as a competition and then emotionally react to it, rather than expecting the fireworks right away.
I hope. The thing is, who knows. We had great success as Clash at the Castle, and now coming back with Money in the Bank, I’m hoping this is something that becomes a tradition where they venture out to Europe for the big events. The response is great and we get the chance more often.”
WWE already has plan for Gunther’s next opponent as well. Regardless, only time will tell whether fans will get to see Gunther square off against Brock Lesnar in a singles match somewhere down the line.
