WWE saw history made in the opening match of Night of Champions. Seth Rollins won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Now, we are looking at a new chapter in WWE history, and that will also come with a fresh start.
Randy Orton defeated John Cena to unify the World Heavyweight Championship with the WWE Championship at TLC in 2013. Now, a decade later, that title is back. WWE was going to keep that history going, one that started in 2002 in WWE, but now we have a different story.
The new winner of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship was going to pick up where Randy Orton left off as the last person to hold that title. Now, WWE is listing Seth Rollins as the inaugural champion.
One fan tweeted out at BWE to ask, “Did you see on the WWE website they are stating the new World Heavyweight title has no lineage to the old one? Says Seth is inaugural champion and has the other world heavyweight title from 02 listed as retired?”
This change on WWE’s part was certainly noticed by BWE, and the response made it clear that this was another late change on WWE’s part. Now, it appears that the history of that title will start with Seth Rollins at Night of Champions.
Yup they changed it in the last few days. I had no clue as i traveled out early before everyone. Couldnt update this. Not shocked thu
We will have to see how things pan out in this situation, because Seth Rollins hasn’t held a major singles title in WWE for a long time. Obviously, he is just getting started, but he won’t get to claim the World Heavyweight Championship’s history as his own.
