John Morrison was one of the highlights of WWE television for numerous years, during both of his stints in Vince McMahon’s company. He eventually spread his wings and tried his luck elsewhere, which includes his most recent boxing bout. Now it appears that Morrison’s original boxing opponent was supposed to be a former WWE Superstar.

John Morrison revealed in January that he would be competing in his first boxing match on April 15 against Harley Morenstein at Creator Clash 2 in Tampa. Obviously, no one had any clue whether he could compete at a high level in boxing.

As fans know well by now, the Guru of Greatness defeated Harley Morenstein via TKO and barely broke a sweat. He looked very impressive during his first-ever boxing bout and impressed fans.

While speaking to Mojo Rawley of TMZ Sports, John Morrison talked about his boxing match. Morrison revealed that former WWE Superstar Zack Ryder, also known as Matt Cardona, was one of the original opponents for his boxing debut. However, it never came to fruition despite Morrison’s numerous attempts to get Cardona to fight him.

”They asked me would I be willing to fight Harley or Matt Cardona, and I asked him if he wanted to fight. He goes like, ‘Bro, I’m not going to fight anyone, and I’m definitely not going fight you. No, bro, are you crazy? No, I’m not going to fight.’ But literally, he was like my first phone call they wanted me to fight broski.”

John Morrison was accompanied by several WWE and AEW stars during his boxing debut. We will have to wait and see whether John Morrison will continue his venture into professional boxing in the future. Perhaps we might just get to see Morrison and Matt Cardona duke it out next time.
