CM Punk remains one of the biggest names in the world of professional wrestling. He returned to pro wrestling in 2021, after a seven-year hiatus after debuting in AEW. That being said, he is a highly controversial name now as well. Punk is currently away from the ring due to injury, but he is now far from making his AEW return.

During the post-AEW All Out media scrum, CM Punk launched a blistering attack on Colt Cabana, Hangman Page, and The Young Bucks, which resulted in a considerable backlash and harm to his reputation within the company. The fallout from his harsh comments also became a huge topic of discussion even now.

Following the All Out event, CM Punk has been notably absent from the wrestling scene, as he suffered a triceps injury that required surgery. Fortunately, he is currently in the process of recuperating and has been making steady progress towards recovery. Additionally, his suspension may have also contributed to his prolonged absence.

According to Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was noted that Tony Khan could face some issues if CM Punk comes back. That being said, Punk is likely not far from mkaing his AEW return.

“Tony Khan is legit in a really hard position. Bringing Punk back and not putting him on top probably won’t make Punk happy and putting him on top, perhaps he’ll draw very well but that’s not a lock, and those who carried the company when he was gone won’t be happy he’s back if he’s on top. Then you have the talent that won’t want him back unless he makes amends (and that would be the best thing for everyone, and try and apologize to smooth things out but I don’t know that is in he cards which is why the situation becomes hard).

Will people leave over it? Maybe and that has to be figured in but Moxley and Jericho won’t leave I don’t think since they have long-term deals. Punk is probably not far from being able to return and has said that he wants to wrestle again. Khan is in a contract year (maybe, WBD could just pick up its option for one more year at a much higher price point) and WBD has financial issues and is cutting way back.”

CM Punk and The Elite have not mended fences
while he remains on the shelf after suffering a triceps injury. We will have to wait and see when Punk will return to the company.
