Sting shocked the world when he made his debut in AEW back in December 2020. Since then, he has been featured heavily on AEW television, being paired up with Darby Allin. Before that, Sting made a name for himself in various promotions such as WCW, NWA and more. In fact, Sting was once beaten up for dating a co-worker’s ex-girlfriend.

Before joining WCW in 1987, Sting had a brief stint in Universal Wrestling Federation. While Sting was there, there were rumors of him having a love affair with Dark Journey, which got him in trouble with her ex-boyfriend, Dick Slater.

Missy Hyatt, who once feuded with Dark Journey, wrote about the aforementioned incident in her autobiography “Missy Hyatt: First Lady of Wrestling.” She detailed how Sting even got beaten up because of this.

“Dark Journey had left Dick Slater […] and shacked up for a weekend in the apartment of a young wrestler named Steve Borden. That’s Sting to you. Naturally, Slater found out about it, probably from Dark Journey herself, and naturally he flipped out. The next week, he came storming into the dressing room looking for Sting, and he found him in the bathroom putting on his face paint.

Slater then “beat the living crap” out of the Icon. Sting apparently didn’t even put up a fight. Sting “just let himself get beat up.’ He was caught, and the Stinger was just starting out in the pro wrestling business.

Missy Hyatt explained that Sting knew that Slater had a lot of friends who could ruin his career, so Sting decided it was better just to get beaten up than anything else. The story continues to be told even now and fans might find it very interesting if nothing else.
