The Kingdom Had Talks With WWE Before Signing With AEW

Maria Kanellis’ first stint in WWE did not do her much favors, apart from some hilarious segments with Santino Marella and then John Cena. She and her husband Mike Bennett were released by WWE couple of years ago as part of the budget cuts as well. Interestingly enough, WWE had talks with them and Matt Taven to go back to the company.

The Kingdom’s Mike Bennett, Matt Taven and Maria Kanellis finished up with Impact Wrestling back on October 8 and debuted with AEW on the October 14th edition of AEW Rampage. 

According to Sean Sapp behind Fightful’s paywall, Mike Bennett, Matt Taven and Maria Kanellis had talks with WWE about a possible return there. However, no firm offer was in place to bring them in.

Shortly after the trio left IMPACT Wrestling, there were reports that Matt Taven had interest from WWE. We’re told by WWE sources that there were actually conversations with all three members of the Kingdom, including Maria Kanellis and Mike Bennett, however, no firm offer was in place to bring them in, and it was more of a feeling out process between the two sides.

We will have to wait and see how The Kingdom will be booked in the coming weeks. Hopefully, they will have something substantial to do. There are also a lot of questions when it comes to ROH and AEW’s futures.
