AEW and New Japan Pro-Wrestling eventually teamed up to co-produce the historic Forbidden Door event after months of hyping. The Forbidden Door is set to be kicked down once again. It was revealed that AEW stars will be involved at New Japan’s Wrestle Kingdom shows.

A fan recently noted that AEW is possibly pre-taping Dynamite and Rampage on the week of January 4th, so the fan wondered if there would be a number of AEW stars at Wrestle Kingdom. Dave Meltzer confirmed on Wrestling Observer Radio that he was told of certain plans for AEW wrestlers on Wrestle Kingdom.

I don’t know how many but I have in fact been told of certain plans for AEW wrestlers on Wrestle Kingdom. You know AEW has got enough guys that they could lose, like 5 to 6 guys even. You know, even while it’s their top guys, they could still do shows. There are plans for certain AEW guys to be at the Tokyo Dome shows, yes.

The 2020 edition of Wrestle Kingdom featured Chris Jericho, the reigning AEW Champion, taking on Hiroshi Tanahashi. The phrase “Forbidden Door” was used in the build-up to this match, when Tanahashi promised to visit AEW if he defeated Jericho. The IWGP US Title was won by Jon Moxley at the same event over Lance Archer.
