AEW will be promoting the massive Forbidden Door pay-per-view in association with New Japan Pro Wrestling this June. Many fans were disappointed when news emerged that STARDOM, the women’s promotion owned by NJPW, would not be participating. There is still some hope for the two to work together in the future.

AEW draws most of its women’s wrestling talent from Tokyo Joshi Pro and Gatoh Move. There has always been a buzz around bringing in wrestlers from STARDOM, which has produced an incredible amount of great wrestlers and matches. It probably won’t happen at Forbidden Door, but STARDOM is very interested in working with AEW.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote that STARDOM is looking at co-promoting with AEW in the future. They would also like to bring some of AEW’s wrestlers to Japan for their December 30th Sumo Hall show that precedes NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom at the Tokyo Dome. Thus far, there have been no talks between the two sides to anyone’s knowledge.

“There is nothing at all going on regarding that show [Forbidden Door] regarding Stardom, which has a PPV scheduled the same day. AEW has mostly been working with Tokyo Joshi Pro and Gatoh Move when it comes to Japanese women wrestlers. We do know that Stardom, which is owned by Bushiroad, the same company that owns New Japan, would be interested in being part of future shows and working with AEW.

Stardom would also be interested in booking AEW talent for a 12/30 show at Sumo Hall, although neither side has talked as best we can tell and for sure not as of the weekend. The belief from the Bushiroad companies sides are that fans will be flying in like in the past for the Tokyo Dome and the hope is that they can get those fans to come early for the big Stardom show. In the past, the shows Stardom has done the day or two before the Tokyo Dome was packed with non-Japanese fans.”

AEW has been criticized heavily for what some perceive as a weak women’s division. A partnership with STARDOM would go a long way towards creating fresh matchups and bringing in new talent. Time will tell if that partnership comes to be.
