Santana was seriously hurt during the recent AEW Blood & Guts match. A serious knee injury threatened to sideline him for quite some time. The AEW star recently had that procedure done and is now expected to have a lengthy recovery.

Amid rumors of unrest with his tag team partner, Ortiz, Santana has been in the news a lot lately. Earlier this week, he said he would speak soon. So far, no statement has been made.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer discussed Santana’s injury. After having surgery to repair his knee, he is expected to be out for nearly a year. The timeframe for such a recovery is about eight months.

“Santana needed reconstructive knee surgery and looks to be out about eight months. Even though he and Ortiz had a personal falling out, this is going to be tough for Ortiz who is going to have a tough time not being lost in the shuffle.”

It was reported that Ortiz is still expected to be used on AEW television. Santana was recently at an event in Puerto Rico to relinquish a championship, where he was seen on crutches. It could be some time before we know about the nature of their relationship.

It will be a long road to recovery as Santana works to get back into the ring. With an eight-month layoff, Tony Khan will have to find something for Ortiz to do. Hopefully, Santana can fully rehab the knee and stays on target so he can get back to what he does best as soon as it’s safe.
