Jeff Jarrett recently signed on with WWE in an executive position where he is in charge of live events. That will not keep him from being involved in Ric Flair’s upcoming final match. It was revealed yesterday that Double J will team with Jay Lethal to take on Ric Flair and Andrade El Idolo in Nashville on July 31.

It seems strange that a WWE employee would be allowed to wrestle at an independent event. That becomes even odder when you throw an AEW/ROH contracted talent in as his teammate. In past instances where Conrad Thompson had booked big WWE names for one of his events, WWE has been quick to pull the plug.

That is not the case with Jeff Jarrett. On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained why Jarrett is allowed to wrestle at the Ric Flair event. The whole thing has been cleared with WWE and fans shouldn’t expect them to intervene at the last minute.

“With Jeff, the thing with Jeff is that Jeff doesn’t have a talent contract. So legally, even though he’s actually a vice president of the company… He can wrestle this match. I mean, I know a lot of people think that because Conrad [Thompson] in the past had booked WWE guys, including Ric, to do major things at his conventions and then WWE pulled them, that that is going to happen here, but that’s not going to happen. This has all been worked out.”

Ric Flair’s final opponent was revealed in a shocking and bloody angle on the latest episode of the docuseries leading up to the event. Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal gave The Nature Boy a savage beating in the parking lot after a press conference for the event. Flair called on his son-in-law, Andrade, to be his partner.

It will be interesting to see what the dynamic of the Ric Flair’s Last Match event looks like. Wrestlers from AEW, Impact, NJPW, AAA, MLW, and more will all come together with a WWE executive under one roof and in the same ring. While a lot of fans have been turned off by the idea of Flair ever wrestling again, it should be a very interesting show to keep an eye on.
