Mandy Rose will once again defend the NXT Women’s Championship on tonight’s NXT 2.0. Her opponent will be Roxanne Perez, a rising star in the developmental program. There are plenty of fans who expect Perez to win the title.

Rose has already been through a large part of the NXT women’s roster. She has already defeated Cora Jade. Io Shirai is leaving. Many of the other young talents are still very green and not ready for a title run.

While Roxanne Perez makes the most sense right now, WWE sees big things for another NXT superstar. On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that the company is very high on Nikkita Lyons. There has already been talk of having her get a run with the title, but that will be a long way down the road.

“She’s got the tag title, which makes me think that they may not. You know, I don’t know. I think I would do it anyway. I know that there was talk of Nikkita Lyons winning, but not for a long time. Not right now. I mean, Mandy Rose is also kind of, you know, Bron Breakker and Mandy Rose are kind of like the flagship stars of the company, you know the way that they do everything.

She gets the most TV time, she’s a good talker, you know, they build everything around her and everything like that, but I don’t see… She’s already gone through Cora Jade. Io Shirai’s pretty much got her foot out the door. Pretty much gone. So, I don’t really see another contender, so we’ll see.”

Nikkita Lyons will get her time in the spotlight in NXT. Whether that is sooner or later depends on how much the company believes in her. For tonight, it will be Roxanne Perez getting the title shot, but Lyons will eventually get there in due time.
