Joe Gacy signed with WWE after the company purchased the Evolve promotion in 2020. Gacy was brought in with a controversial “politically correct” character. The reaction to his early promos about creating safe spaces got quite a reaction.

Since then, Gacy’s character has changed into more of a cult-like leader with fewer political undertones. That change launched Joe Gacy into the NXT main event scene, where he recently lost to Bron Breakker for the championship at In Your House. In retrospect, Joe thinks his early WWE work was very unique.

Joe Gacy recently spoke to The Wrestling Inc. Daily, where he discussed his character. He said he never got a reaction quite like the one he did when he debuted the gimmick. Gacy doesn’t think anyone has got that kind of reception in recent times.

“[I’ve] never had a reaction like that…

It was new to me … It was something new and different, I guess you could say. I don’t believe in the last couple of years, anyone has made headlines like that.”

After Joe Gacy’s strongman, Harland, was released, he began introducing hooded druids into his presentation. Gacy’s character is now a cross between The Undertaker and Raven. Gacy said he doesn’t think too much about the comparisons.

We will have to see what WWE has planned next for Joe Gacy. After he failed to capture the NXT Championship from Bron Breakker, he is likely to want some form of vengeance. Gacy’s druids will compete for the first time on next week’s NXT 2.0, so fans will have to stay tuned to see where it goes.
