Kane is one of WWE’s most iconic characters. The Big Red Machine starred for decades alongside his storyline brother, The Undertaker. Several years ago, his real-life alter ego Glenn Jacobs decided to give politics a try.

Glenn Jacobs’ libertarian politics resounded well with the people of his native Knoxville, Tennessee. In 2017, he announced that he was running for mayor of Knox County. Jacobs pulled off the victory, soundly defeating his Democratic opponent in the 2018 general election.

Kane is now gearing up for his re-election bid. He ran unopposed in this year’s Republican primary, garnering 24,675 votes. Jacobs will face Democratic primary winner Debbie Helsley in the Fall general election to try and secure a second term. The mayor released a statement on his victory after the polls closed.

“Now more than ever, we must stand strong to defend our conservative values, and as your Mayor, that’s exactly what I will do. I’m humbled by your support and thank each of you for entrusting me to be your Republican nominee, and together, we will win in August to ensure Knox County remains the best place to live, work and raise a family.”

Glenn Jacobs called the win (despite having no opponent) a victory for conservative values. He expressed his gratitude to those who came out to support him even though he was assured the nomination. Now, it is on to the general election.

Mayor Kane will be heavily favored to win a second term. Knox County is largely conservative, and Kane’s ‘hands-off’ approach to government has been popular there. Time will tell if Debbie Helsley will be able to make it a close race.
